Alshuset Bed & Breakfast... History
We know that the house was built around
1750, and that the first known owner was a
ferryman from Fynshav named Andreas
Petersen Schmidt. He bought the house in
1798. It remained in the same family for
100 years, and in 1906 was sold to a joiner
from the nearby village of Helved.
He sold the house in 1919 to a widow from
Kiel. It was used as a summer holiday home
for the next 90 years by several
generations of this same family.
In 2007 the house's inheritors decided to
sell, and I was lucky enough to be able to
buy it. By way of a thankyou, it has been
restored and refurbished with loving care -
and with respect for both the house's and
the area's traditions.
Alshuset was originally a single-family,
low-income home. It was built from
sun-dried bricks, and had a thatched roof.
